You can’t expect that everybody will be able to get your message and know what action to take unless you tell them specifically. Don’t ever think that copywriting isn’t involved with banners because it is. Therefore, the call to action must be used, but of course don’t be rude about it. The graphics have their role to play just like that copy does.
Another banner advertising tips that advertisers usually miss is that your ad needs to be targeted towards one single offer, that’s all. If your banner ad copy, or text, is too general than people really won’t quite know what you’re trying to say. When the message is scattered all over the place, then people will not know what to think or what’s happening with your ad. The thing is that they cannot know if they want to click through unless your copy is totally clear. You never want to do anything to cause confusion because your conversions will only suffer from it.
Last but not the least; make sure you’re not forgetting to match the colors of your ads with the design of the website they’re being displayed on. Even if the same banner is being shown on four different sites, you need to attempt to match the colors of the banner with the overall designs of these sites. This is because you want your banner to blend it somewhat because otherwise if it sticks out too much it will hurt the response rate. Your banners should look as if they are an integral part of the site they are being presented on and they need to be perfectly aligned. While no one expects it to be flawless, you still need to make sure there is some coordination. All in all, there is no way banner advertising won’t work for you if you’re constantly monitoring, tweaking and improving your campaigns. You’ll have to do a lot of testing but eventually what matters is how well your efforts are paying off and with banner advertising, there’s no doubt that you’ll get a good response in the long run.
